{Giveaway Closed} The Heart Of Christmas on DVD
How would you react if you saw your neighbors decorating for Christmas, instead of Halloween? You would ask why, or what’s going on? What if you were told that the whole neighborhood was decorating and celebrating the holidays early, in place of Halloween?
The Heart of
Christmas begins with a very busy working Mom (Candace Cameron Bure),
missing her daughter’s soccer game, and nearly forgetting to take her son trick
or treating. When she arrives in the neighborhood that is known for full size
candy bars and great Halloween lawn decorations, Megan is shocked to see that
the neighborhood is hanging Christmas lights. She notices that several homes
are taking part, and not a single pumpkin is to be found. Curiosity finally
gets the best of Megan and she asks, “What’s going on, do you know today is
Halloween?” The neighbor smiles, and simply says, “We are decorating for Dax.” Trish
explains that Dax is a little boy, and his mother has written all about his
story on a website called, Caring Bridge, and if she would sit down and take
the time to read his story, it would be life changing.
Julie Locke’s firsthand account of her son Dax’s diagnosis,
treatment, and care will draw you into the heartwarming tale of The Heart of Christmas. Dax’s mother,
Julie (Jeanne Neilson) is soon overwhelmed with calls of support and concern,
eventually turning off the phone. She then meets and leans on other mothers who
have formed a support group at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Learning
that she is not alone, in her sons’ battle and diagnosis of a rare form of Leukemia,
Julie sits down and starts to write daily about Dax. Through her blog, Julie,
is able to keep everyone in the loop, can request support, or share the many
small steps of progress that Dax has made.
Join the Locke family as they ride the emotional roller
coaster of Dax’s treatment for Leukemia. She shares the joy of small things,
and comes to appreciate how even a walk outside, can bring so much joy. Dax is
given permission to return home for Christmas, and Julie notes that it is the
happiest Dax has been in months! Just a few hours later, the hospital calls and
the doctors request that Dax must return for more treatment.
When Dax returns home many months later, as treatment and
experimental trials are not working, the neighborhood rallies to support the
Locke’s. One night while watching Dax sleep in his room, Julie realizes that autumn
is upon them, and that Dax will not live till December. Julie and Dax wake up
to Austin setting up the Christmas tree, and decorating just to lift Dax’s
spirits. As Austin is outside hanging Christmas lights, their next door
neighbor Mark notices and asks “You know its October, right?” News spreads and
the neighborhood agrees to hang lights, decorate for Christmas, and sing
carols; so that Dax can have one last Christmas. Megan’s heart is forever
changed as she reads the final entry of Julie’s blog. The value of family time,
stopping long enough to enjoy the moment, and never telling a child that I am
just too busy; are the numerous lessons that Megan learned from a little boy
named Dax, whom she has never met. Are you cherishing every moment?
As a mother and blogger I was moved to tears, while watching
The Heart of Christmas. I am so grateful for the health of my children, and I
find great joy in simply watching them run and play. I am so encouraged by mothers like Julie, and
those who have spent any time at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I am
inspired to help my neighbors, and encourage them in simple ways! Would you
celebrate a holiday early, just to see joy that it brings? Need a heartwarming
movie to watch with the family this holiday season? Please, check out the Heart of Christmas, and you
will be forever changed! Cherish Every Moment!
